January 8, 2026Rutgers–Newark’s IDRIS Publishes First Impact Report Highlighting Strong Start and Growing Influence
The Institute for Data, Research and Innovation Science (IDRIS) at Rutgers University–Newark has released its first-ever Impact Report, marking a milestone in the institute’s inaugural year and underscoring its growing role as a leader in responsible and ethical artificial intelligence and data-driven innovation.
The report highlights measurable early impact. IDRIS programs influenced more than 200 learners, hosted six seminars featuring national scholars, and attracted 347 attendees to distinguished lectures. The institute also submitted five funding proposals, secured $50,000 in external funding, and engaged with more than 15 industry partners to support research and teaching initiatives.
In addition to research and programming, IDRIS contributed to faculty recruitment in key areas including AI and mental health and large language models. Its website and public engagement efforts generated over 11,900 impressions and hundreds of interactions, reflecting growing interest in interdisciplinary innovation.
Looking ahead, IDRIS plans to expand collaborations, hire postdoctoral researchers, and further develop its innovation space. The report affirms the institute’s mission to harness AI and data responsibly, positioning Rutgers–Newark as a leader in advancing technology for societal good.
