IDRIS-AWS Research Day: Engaging with Rutgers University – Newark Students and Faculty
October 17, 2025IDRIS-AWS Research Day: Engaging Rutgers University – Newark via Large Language Models
By: Laura Bierstedt
The final session was an interactive workshop where attendees were able to create Agentic Workflows (i.e., a chatbot) using Amazon Bedrock. Despite a long day of events, the large conference room was packed with over 50 people; AWS leaders and attendees created agentic workflows that acted autonomously in response to received requests from the user.
There were three key takeaways:
- Rutgers faculty and students were given access to Amazon Bedrock via hands-on exercises.
- Attendees were fully absorbed with the task at hand and enjoyed learning how to create chatbot workflows.
- Previous coding experience ranging from novice to expert among attendees. However, each person added to their skillset and successfully created an agentic workflow based on large language models (LLMs).
Over the past 5 years, our knowledge of and access to LLMs and AI has skyrocketed. Amazon Bedrock connects foundation models (FMs), services to deploy and operate agents, and tools for fine-tuning, safeguarding, and optimizing models along with knowledge bases. Common uses of Bedrock include conversational agents, image generation and virtual assistants.
It was an exciting time with AWS! We look forward to more to come with IDRIS and AWS!
