Lives In Translation and IDRIS: Neither Magic Wand Nor Enemy
April 16 @ 1:30 pm - 5:00 pm

THE RESPONSIBLE USE OF AI IN TEACHING THE HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
Join us for this hands-on workshop on AI integration! Participants will engage in interactive activities, explore real faculty use cases (with a focus on Humanities and Social Sciences), and leave with practical takeaways for responsible and effective AI use in the classroom. This workshop is especially valuable for faculty who are curious about AI but unsure where to start, as well as those looking to advance their AI literacy and classroom applications.
Our keynote speaker will be Tina R. Austin, an award-winning AI innovator and higher ed educator transforming how AI is integrated across disciplines. Since 2022, Tina has led AI-driven teaching in fields from bioethics and regenerative medicine to social sciences and AI in gender studies. As faculty at USC and UCLA, she focuses on ethical AI use, bias, and practical tools, and led faculty workshops across the country, including at CSU universities. She was recently recognized as one of ASU+GSV’s 2025 Leading Women in AI and is a recipient of the
UCLA-OpenAI EDU License. Tina is dedicated to empowering faculty and students to navigate AI’s opportunities and challenges with confidence and creativity. This event is a collaboration with IDRIS and The Spanish and Portuguese (SPS) Department’s Lives In Transition (LIT).
